AgendaTalk Details

Design Processes

15:30 - 17:00 Campus Library, Level 3, Room 3118, Seaside

This talk will illustrate and discuss practical approaches to the development of complex designs, informed by material and structural properties. The main focus will be on bending active and kinetic structures.

Material properties as well as the specific characteristics of structures have always informed architectural design. In recent years advances in computational design and digital fabrication bring virtual design processes and the physical realization of architecture closer together. An interesting convergence of computation and materialization can be observed.

Physical design experiments can now be complemented by computational approaches, even in early design stages. This helps to build the necessary deep understanding of inherent morphological properties of materials, structures and fabrication processes necessary to the development of architecture.
